On 4th April 2017 BERRI-BIJJARGI was registered as a charitable trust.
The project is inspired by the renowned Mathematician & Astronomer, Bhaskaracharya, also known as Bhaskara II, who was born in Bijjargi village of Vijayapura (Bijapur) district, Karnataka, in the 12th century.
The Trust is committed to keeping the legacy of this great intellectual alive for present and future generations by promoting Mathematics & Astronomy and Rural Development.The work of the Trust will begin at Bijjargi, where child prodigies with mathematical skills have been discovered. The founder trustee, also a child prodigy, is native to this village.
The vision is to set up a rural campus at Bijjargi. This campus will be an educational & resource hub in the field of mathematics and astronomy for children of all ages. For others engaged in agricultural and other livelihood activities it would serve as a community centre for information, resource and help centre.
(DOB: 1974) Ashok’s special mathematical abilities were noticed when he was six years old and a local newspaper referred to him as a “human computer”. This talent brought him to Bengaluru. He completed his schooling at Valley School and went on to graduate from Bangalore University.. He worked at Centre For Learning, an alternative school situated in Magadi Taluk, Ramanagara for 30 years(1992-93 to 2022) . Apart from administrative responsibilities Ashok was involved in the management of activities related to the functioning of a residential campus.
(DOB: 1976)Sabaiah is a man of many talents. He has been associated with the Raja Rajeshwari Temple / Kailash Ashram, Raja Rajeshwarinagar, Mysore Road, Bengaluru. He is an energetic entrepreneur and an agriculturalist. His association with Bijjargi goes back many years.
(DOB: 1965) He is also interested in agriculture and social activity. A graduate from Bagalkot,he has been working in the village panchayats for the last 25 years. and has a keen interest in the work of the Trust.
(DOB - 1947) Kanamadi has a graduate degree in science(B.Sc) and an M.A and M.Lib. He has served as a librarian in MGVC Degree College, Muddebihal for over thirty-five years. His work experience includes working as a teacher/lecturer for fifteen years in high school and PU Colleges. He has several articles to his credit both in English and Kannada magazines and has edited books. His association with literary and professional organisations at the state and the national Level is well known. He is also presently the honorary Librarian at Jnanayogashrama Vijayapura.
(1926-2021) Ishwarachandra was a teacher who had received several prestigious awards from Karnataka Janapada Academy, Government of India Fellowship, National Award for Neo-literates and also, the Rajyotsava award in the year 2013. There are nearly 50 literary works to his credit. He also served as the President of District Kannada Sahitya Parishat for Bijapur from 1986-91. He was Presented the “Voyoshreshtha Samman - 2019” by the President of India Sri Ram Nath Kovind. He was the Acting President of Rural Education Society till 2021, Bijjargi and was active member of Bhaskaracharya II Abhimani Balaga, Vijayapur.
(DOB:1969) Ashok is an active agriculturist and social worker. With a master’s degree in Sociology (1996) and 25 years of experience in teaching he is currently a lecturer in B A K Pre University. He is also the Convenor, Sri Satya Sai Baba Committee, and Director of G V V Sangha, at Bijjargi.
